Article 370 Short Film

The short film Article 370 was released on the one year anniversary of revocation of the Article 370 in the Indian Constitution, August 5th 2020, which primarily stripped away the autonomy of Kashmiris. The short film Article 370 attempts to capture the untold narrative of Kashmir – a story about Kashmiri women living in an oppressive society while being strong and resilient in the face of adversity. The filmmakers Ibrahim Baloch and Shuja Uddin took up the challenge of telling a human story of a region that’s fought between three nuclear-armed countries.

The film was made entirely made in Pakistan with a Pakistani cast and crew which is unheard of when it comes to onscreen Kashmiri narratives (usually seen through the lens of mainstream Indian filmmaking)

To add authenticity to the narrative, a leading female Kashmiri poet from Srinagar, Rumuz, worked as a Kashmiri consultant and her indigenous Kashmiri poetry ‘Sawaal Kaetya’ was used in a song sequence which highlighted the plight of Kashmiri women – a collaboration between India and Pakistan that defies the tense political tenor of the region.

Article 370’s writer Shuja Uddin received an Honorable Mention in Prague International Indie Film Festival Quarterly Festival 2021 edition for Best Screenwriter, and the film is now a semi-finalist for Annual Competition.
